LIFESTYLE

It’s the time of year to dust off the box of adorable, festive and fun ornaments for the Christmas tree. This time, why not add to your holiday decoration collection and try your hand in a creative craft project? Add a personal touch to your tree and gifts this year with these homemade Christmas ornaments.

1. Glitter Pinecone Ornaments

Let the crisp cool air embrace you as you explore your backyard or neighborhood for pinecones. Depending on the size of the tree, try to collect a variety of sizes to mix things up. Before you head out on your adventure, make sure you pick your favorite travel mug and mix a tasty Caramel Chai Latte to ensure you have a warm treat for every step of the way.

What you’ll need:

  • Pinecones
  • Silver glitter
  • String
  • Paint Brush
  • Glue (Craft Glue works great!)

What you’ll do:

  • Collect pinecones and bring inside
  • Laydown newspaper and spread out pinecones
  • Use brush to spread glue on pinecones
  • Sprinkle silver glitter all over pinecones
  • Add glue to top of pinecones and stick ribbon to top until dry
  • Tie string into a bow
  • Hang on tree

2. Chai or Cinnamon Heart Ornaments

Have your home smell like fresh spices by making these cinnamon ornaments that are kid-friendly and fun for all ages. Follow these steps that will add a personal touch to your tree.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 cup of applesauce
  • 1 1/2 cups cinnamon
  • 2 Tablespoons cloves optional (grind with a spice grinder)
  • Heart cookie cutters in different sizes
  • String for hanging

What you’ll do:

  • Mix 1 cup of applesauce with 1 cup of cinnamon or powdered Oregon Chai  in a large bowl
  • Add the additional 1/2 cup of cinnamon, cloves and continue to mix
  • Scatter some cinnamon or powdered Oregon Chai  (like if you were rolling out cookies with flour) and roll out applesauce/cinnamon dough to 1/4″ thick (If the dough is too wet, it will make a huge mess and stick to your rolling pin.)
  • Use your cookie cutters to cut out the hearts.
  • Preheat your oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Place the hearts on a cookie sheet
  • Using a skewer carefully make a hole through each heart
  • Stick the ornaments in the oven for an hour or more

Your cinnamon hearts should be rock hard. If they’re not, give them some more time in the oven.

  • The next day, loop a string through each of the holes to hang on the tree

Despite a tasty mix of chai spice and cinnamon, these ornaments are not fit to eat.

3. Chai Mix Ornaments

Share your love of chai this holiday season with friends and family.

What you’ll need:

  • A scoop or two of Vanilla Chai Tea Latte Mix
  • A clear plastic fillable ornament… one that’s food safe
  • Any addition treats you would like to add. Can’t go wrong with white chocolate chips and mini marshmallows
  • Ribbon

What you’ll do:

  • Take top off of ornament
  • Fill Vanilla Chai Tea Latte Mix into ornament using a funnel
  • Add treats. Make sure to add mini marshmallows last
  • Put top back on ornament and tie ribbon
